Debut Author Week: Character Interview with Aria and Perry from Under the Never Sky

I don't know about you, but character interviews are my very favorite type of post. The answers give you an unexpected glimpse into the character's logic and personal thoughts. Now we do get to read both Aria's and Perry's points-of-view in Under the Never Sky, but these answers are so very, well, THEM. You'll see and oh yes, as per our policy, there are NO spoilers.
PTB: Aria, as a self-labeled geek, I was fascinated by your Realms. So I have to ask, what was your favorite realm inside Reverie?

Aria: I don’t have a single favorite, but I do love music Realms. Anywherewhere there’s live music. Concerts, theater, cabaret. I spend most of my timein those kinds of Realms. I also love the Venetian Realms. There’s nothing better than hanging out along the Grand Canal.

PTB: Venetian Realms would be amazing to see. Gondoliers, I suppose, too? Okay, but now I have to ask (because I kept thinking about it as I read your story) once you were on the outside, was there one thing that you wished you could have brought with you?

Aria: Caleb. He’s Paisley’s brother, and I miss him. It was always the three of us, so to lose both of them when I was cast out was really hard.

PTB: Aria, you are such a strong and determined girl and you accept your
circumstances and find your bearings quickly. In hindsight, is there a
decision that you might have made differently?

Aria: I wish I’d spent more time appreciating the good things about my mother. I guess that’s more of an approach than a single decision. But I think regret isn’t really a good emotion unless it helps you in the present. I think I forgive faster now. And I appreciate the people I love more.

I may have wanted to hug Aria with that answer. But, I got to ask the hero, Perry, a few questions, too and umm, well, things got blushy.
PTB: If we were to land in your world, what piece of advice would you give us that would help us survive the harshness of yourenvironment? I may be thinking of your description of how to tell if a berry is edible. *blushes* *smiles*

Perry: That’s a good place to start…. (Smiles) Now I’m embarrassed. Whatwas the question again? Right. Survival. You have to cover the basics. Shelter, food, water. Depending on where you are, one of those will be most important. And keep your head cool. Survival is about making good decisions.

PTB: *tries keeping her head cool* We love the mutual friendship and respect you have with Roar. If we were to ask him about you, what do you think he'd say?

Perry: (Laughs) He’d tell you a few stories meant to embarrass me. Was he the one who told you about the berries? I should have never told him about that. Roar is never happier than when he makes me squirm.

PTB: I think that's exactly why readers will love Roar. Perry, you are a man of few words. So using just three words, tell PTB readers why they should pick up your's (and Aria's) story?

Perry: Survival. Adventure. Aria.

Phew. That was quite an interview. Now don't forget to read the 5-star review and enter the giveaway for a SIGNED, hardcover copy HERE.

2012 Debut Author Spotlight: Q&A with Prince Kai

Prince Kai, from Cinder's book trailer
It's always exciting to entertain royalty, and today we none other than His Royal Highness Prince Kai, heir to the Eastern Commonwealth in Marissa Meyer's New York Times bestseller (congratulations Marissa!), Cinder.

PTB: You have a lot of responsibility on your shoulders (ongoing negotiations with The Lunars, keeping research for a cure for letumosis going and not to mention your father's illness) and you handle it all well. Is there anything you fear?

Prince Kai: I have more fears than is probably safe to share in a public interview, but mostly I worry that I won’t live up to the expectations that the people of the Commonwealth have of me.

PTB: Just the fact that you voiced that concern will make you a great leader. But Prince Kai, I want to discuss something a bit lighter and more personal. You may not know this, but PTB girls love to dance and we hear that there will be a ball given in your honor. If you were to ask us to dance that night, what would we talk about while dancing?

Prince Kai: I’m actually rather fond of dancing myself (all those years of dance instruction have been good for something at least). But I tend to be curious and interested in other people, despite how distracted I’ve been with everything happening in the kingdom lately, so expect lots of questions directed your way. As long as it isn’t more tedious politics, I’m open to any topic.

PTB: I think we may be able to think of a few non-political topics. One thing we've noticed, your Highness is that you have a wonderful sense of humor and we do love our share of snarky boys, so what three words would you use to tell our readers why they should read your (and Cinder's) story?

Prince Kai: “Because I’m charming.” (Not bragging, just a fact.)

Let's just end on that note before I swoon (again) in print. If you haven't picked up Cinder, run to the store and buy a copy or enter our giveaway here. Whatever you do, don't miss out on this perfect blend of sci-fi and fantasy fairy tale.

2012 Debut Author Spotlight: Q&A with Cinder

Cinder (from the book trailer)
Recently, we had the opportunity to ask Marissa Meyer's Cinder a few questions:

From the synopsis: Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness.

PTB: Your life is filled with heart-breaking moments, is there one thing that makes you happy?

Cinder: My happiest moments are definitely being with my stepsister, Peony, and my android assistant, Iko. Peony’s zest for life and Iko’s ongoing attempts to master sarcasm always make me laugh, and being with them can make me forget that I’m different.

PTB: I have to admit that I adored Iko and Peony, but some of Iko's comments made me laugh out loud. It's good that you have a few people around you who can make you smile. Now, your ability to fix things is well known in New Beijing's market. I'm curious, have you come across something you couldn't fix?

Cinder: One time, not long after I’d opened my weekly booth, a customer brought in an ancient gaming console from the second era. I spent weeks scouring the net for a replacement sensor bar, but they haven’t been produced for ages and the one museum I contacted wouldn’t sell it to me. Looking back, I don’t know why I didn’t just rig something up with an old android sensor, but I was still new to the trade and believed that everything had to be stock for it to be right. I’m over that now.

PTB: Oh Cinder, how I wish you could fix my car. It's making this slightly whirring noise. But never mind that, I was thinking about how you are so brave and honest in your approach to life, is there one thing that you've said that you wish you could take back?

Cinder: Don’t tell her I said this, but I’ve been teasing Peony for her humongous crush on Prince Kai for the past five years, which is maybe a little unfair. These days, I find myself understanding her feelings more and more…

PTB: Trust me, Cinder, I can completely relate to that scenario as can most of our readers.

Thank you to Cinder and Marissa for the interview. If you're not following the Lunar Chronicles facebook page, click over and "like" it. There are lots of links to interviews, giveaways and events. Stop by tomorrow when we get to ask Prince Kai a few key questions.

Shattered Souls Blog Tour Stop: Alden Interview

Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey blog tour - you can find all the blog tour stops at Teen Book Scene.  Shattered Souls is about a girl named Lenzi finding out she is a reincarnated soul from the 1800's.  Lenzi is a Speaker (helps lost souls cross over) and her Protecter is Alden. We requested an interview with Alden because I found his story very intriguing and I wanted to know more.

• Do you ever feel like part of the family you are born into – or this is who you are and you just play along until you are old enough to break free?
I’m usually very attached to my family. Sometimes my families are poor, sometimes I have lots of brothers and sisters. This time has been perfect so far. I love my parents and my little sister is amazing. I think knowing I will come back again and this is a transitory situation does color how I feel sometimes, but it doesn’t limit my capacity for love or caring for the family I am born into.

• Are y'all always reborn around the same time with a minimal age gap or have there been times when you were born years before her?
Prior to this cycle, I’ve always been born years earlier. I’m usually at least 21 when Rose emerges, always at 17. This time, something got screwed up and we are very close to the same age. Dealing with all of this at 17 is hard. It helps when I’m older.
• Were you worried that Lenzi would turn her back on being a Speaker?
Absolutely. In fact, I almost gave up a couple of times. She’s usually in complete control of things and it threw me when I had to step in and guide her for a while. It’s much better now, though.
• Is the “amnesia” a blessing or a curse?
It certainly makes my job as her Protector more difficult, but it has added a twist to our relationship that could be amazing. I mean really amazing.
• Favorite place to eat in Galveston?
The Sunday brunch at the Hotel Galvez. Best food ever.

Finn Interview : In the Forest of the Night Blog Tour Stop

According to Abby, Finn looks like a young Brad Pitt - in case you've been living under a rock for the last 20 years and don't know who Brad Pitt is... Don't fret, for your viewing pleasure we provided you with a picture.

Character Interview with Finn

Finn you’re the Mac Cumhaill, for those not familiar with the story can you tell us a little bit about what that means?
It means I’m cursed, doesn’t it? Fear Doirich—the goblins’ god—set his creatures to hunting my family down through time. Mac Cumhaills don’t die easy, and we don’t die old and grey. I’ll be taking my share of goblins with me, though, even if I never live to see my twenty-first birthday.
What is the deal with you and Abby – why are you always picking on her?
Me picking on her? The woman squirted me with holy water hoping I’d melt. (Finn grins) I’ll win her over, though. She’s important to Tea, isn’t she? So she’ll just have to get used to me.
If you love Teagan for who she is(animal lover/healer) why are you always trying to talk her of “trying” to save things like the cat-sidhe?
The girl has a mind of her own, and I admire her for it. She hasn’t been around the creatures. Cat-sidhe break the bones of old ladies. They suck the breath from wee babies, and whisper insanity to helpless people. Tea hasn’t seen much of that yet—but I’ve had a lifetime of it.
Favorite Irish Mythology/Folklore story?
I like the stories of Fionn MacCumhaill.
What is the most useful item your bag?
Duct tape. It’s the most useful thing in the universe.
If you were to get a tattoo – what would it be and why?
I’ve got one. (Finn pulls up his sleeve to show a Celtic knot curled around his bicep.) I had it done after I had to lead the goblins into the night, leaving Tea behind. I thought I would never see her again. Those are words worked into the knot. (He winks) I’m not telling anyone but Teagan what it says, though. It’s personal.

We hope you enjoyed learning more about the leading man from The Goblin War Series.

If I Die Blog Tour Stop - Character Interview with Tod & Giveaways

Tod is by far my favorite character in the Soul Screamer Series; he is funny and selfless and an all around great guy - even if he is technically dead. So when we were offered the chance to interview him for this blog tour, I was beyond ecstatic. Hope you enjoy getting to know a little bit more about the reaper.

Some of our questions could possibly be spoilerish - so read at your own risk!

For anyone who hasn't read the series can you give us a little info about yourself?
I'm dead. Not the walking dead (no rotting parts). Not the living dead (no light allergy or blood-sucking). I died the week before I turned eighteen and was recruited by the reapers, so now I reap souls from the dead for all of eternity. It sucks.
Was it love at first sight or did your feelings for Kaylee grow over time?
Who said I love Kaylee? What, a guy can't drop in on his brother and that brother's girlfriend with precision timing every now and then without people dropping the L-word?
What do you mean, I sound defensive?
What are your thoughts on this YA crush tourney thing? Obviously, you should have won - but some girls are blinded by accents.
I only care about one girl's opinion of me. But I can't blame the others for their interest. I like me too.
Do you read in your free time and if so what book/books would you recommend?
I like Thomas Hardy. Dickens. Stephen King. And Eminem. What? The man's a poet.
Apricot Jam? Is this store bought or a family recipe- if it's a recipe would you mind sharing?
Apricot Jam is available in limited quantities, to a select clientele. Many will enter. Few will win.
Knowing what you know now- would you change anything?
I'd go with the Skullcandy over the Sony earbuds. They fit better and they have little skulls on them. Sets the proper mood for a little soul reaping.

Oh, you were serious?
I would not change the results of anything I've done. But I might change the methods. Forever is a long time to live with your decisions.
Favorite pizza topping?
Pineapple.
Favorite thing about Kaylee?
She's fearless. Even when she's terrified.
Biggest regret?
I'd tell you. But then I'd have to reap your soul, dispose of the body, hide the evidence, live with the guilt, and keep a secret for all of eternity. It's a lot easier for us both if I just give you a mischievous grin and let you ponder the possibilities while you stare at me. 'Cause we both know you're staring.
Favorite movie?
Anything predictable enough that it doesn't require the full attention of…whoever I'm watching it with. I like to multi-task.

Crossroads Blog Tour Stop: Character Interview with Michael & Giveaway

Our reviewer Michele had the chance to sit down with Michael and ask him a few daunting questions.

Thank you for your interest. This is my first interview so I will do my best to answer your questions, but there may be questions I may not be able to disclose due to angel secrecy. I hope you understand.

1. In the Beginning, you were cold to Claudia. What was the turning point that caused you to just go with your feelings?
The turning point happened when I thought I had lost her forever. At that moment, my world had turned upside down. When she recovered, my attitude changed. I wanted to get to know her, to be near her, to love her, and keep her safe. My feelings for her overcame me and nothing else mattered, even if I knew I would be dammed to hell.
2. Was it difficult for you to return to Earth after spending so much time in Crossroads?
The answer to that question would be yes and no. I was more than happy to go back to Earth with Claudia. I wanted to get to know her and spend time with her as if I were a human. The difficult part was that everything, I mean everything is so different on Earth compare to Crossroads. We have no need for electricity, cars, computers, cell phones, and so much more. Life is so simple at Crossroads in Halo City. Also, it was difficult to return because I wanted to stay. The longer I stayed, the weaker I got, but I wanted to stay with Claudia. And every time I had to go back, it was extremely difficult to leave her.
3. What are your feelings for Aden? For Alexa Rose?
Aden was my mentor and like a father to me. I followed his quest because I believed in it too; that humans and angels can co-exist. That was until I knew of his true motives. Not only did he want to take over Crossroads, he wanted the humans to treat him like God. He also took children so he can train them to be his soldiers. Alexa Rose was one of the children who was captured. She became very attached to me or maybe I should say I became attached to her. Anyway, I knew I had to do something because his quest was not what I believed in. I love Alexa Rose as if she was my little sister. You see, we are all brothers and sisters in Halo City, but Alexa Rose seems to be extra attached to me, perhaps she sees me like a big brother.
4. Phillip has given you a lot of trust considering your past. Do you think he will be upset that you have kept "things" to yourself?
I know that I have kept many things from Phillip and I feel very guilty. He has put a lot of trust in me and I feel ashamed that I have kept the truth from him. I have been thinking about this situation and I feel that I will have to come clean with him. I know that Phillip will be disappointed at first, but he will understand as long as I am the one who tells him and he doesn’t find out through someone else. I will have to really think about how to approach this.
5. Why do you think you have more special talents than the other Alkins?
The Twelve have many more powers than the Earth angels. Since my father was one of the Twelve, I’ve inherited his special genes. This allows me to have more special talents. It’s what makes me different from other Alkins.
6. You are such a romantic to Claudia. Do you think this comes from your life on Earth?
I don’t remember my life on earth so I’m not sure. I think being romantic comes from wanting to show Claudia how much I care for her. Since I can’t stay a long time on Earth and since I know my time with Claudia will soon end, I want to create memories of us since it will be all I have.
7. You seem to have a great relationship with Davin, Caleb, and Vivian. What do you do to "hang out" together in Crossroads?
I was close to Davin already, since he and I enjoy dueling together. He is very friendly and has a great sense of humor. Vivian is very sweet. She is good at locating anyone. Caleb is very quiet, but he has a big heart and cares deeply for everyone. We didn’t hang out much besides hanging out during meetings with Phillip, but ever since we had to work together to protect Claudia, our bond got stronger.

Thank you for the interview! Now I need to fly back to Claudia.

Vanish Blog Tour Stop : Corbin Interview & Swag Giveaway

Vanish is the second book in Sophie Jordan's YA series Firelight. Vanish will introduced us to some new characters - Corbin is one of them. I can't say that we are "honored" to have him stopping by, but we did have a few things we wanted to ask him.

  • How do you feel about Jacinda’s assessment of your character – was she spot on or was she a little harsh?
Jacinda’s perception is totally warped. She’s a draki and she’s involved herself with a human … a hunter. Clearly, she’s unbalanced and her “assessment” of my character is anything but accurate. If she’d see things my way, things would be better. For everyone. Especially me.
  • You made some bad choices in Vanish, if you could get a redo, would you change anything?
Yeah. I wouldn’t be so patient with Jacinda.
  • Why do you think you’d make a better Pride leader than Cassian?
Obviously me. Cassian lets his emotions get the better of him. Especially concerning Jacinda. I wouldn’t let sentiment get in the way. I’d rule the pride with an iron fist – the way it should be ruled.
  • If you could pick the type of draki you would become – what would you have chosen?
I’m quite satisfied with what I am. Traditionally, onyx are the strongest, bravest, fastest draki. We’re best suited to lead.
  • Favorite outdoor activity?
It would have to be flying, of course. Racing, specifically.
I like to win.
  • Favorite Book?
I’m not much of a reader. I’m a doer.

Wolfsbane Blog Tour : Interview with Shay and Giveaway

We are so excited to be part of Mundie Moms' Wolfsbane Tour and how lucky are we because we get to interview none other than Shay. Now, we're trying to keep it fun and spoiler-free (for both books), so if you haven't read Nightshade and/or Wolfsbane, no worries, you can enjoy a little bit of Shay! *picture Max Irons as Shay sitting in front of you* (and if you're curious why Max, check out Andrea's blog!  ;) ) and enjoy!!!

PTB: Shay, the PTB girls all agree that you are one of our favorite fictional characters so we have to ask, who is yours?

SHAY: Fred and George Weasley from Harry Potter. Marauder's Map: need I say more?

PTB: *laughs* No, you don't. We all adore the Weasley Twins. I mean who doesn't, right? Their firework laden escape from Professor Umbridge is a beautiful moment. While we're on the subject of books, if you were going somewhere and you could only take three books with you, which ones would you choose and why?

SHAY: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - it's my favorite of the series, and that was before I had a soft spot for werewolves...I mean Guardians. *leans in* Don't tell Calla I called them werewolves again. She hates that, but come on. It's a hard habit to break. Neil Gaiman's Sandman collection - best graphic novels. The man is a genius. And finally an anthology of philosophy - picking one philosopher is too tough, I like to keep as many as possible close by.

PTB: Two of our favorites and no, that would not include the philosophy anthology but we do love that about you. We have to ask -- when you first met Calla, what three words came to mind?

SHAY: I don't think I can repeat those words here. Also I was cut to ribbons by that grizzly and thought I might be halfway to the other side when a wolf stalking me was suddenly a girl.

PTB: Right, *winces* I remember that moment all too well. We also have to ask what is the creepiest thing you found in your uncle's house?

SHAY: Some of the jars in that hidden cabinet I found before I met Calla and started school had dead things or bits of dead things in them. Some were floating in liquid. Some were dried husks but I could still see that they belonged to living beings at one time. *shudders*

PTB: Okay, whoa, that IS creepy and disturbing. We're at the end of our interview and we have to let you know that we're very excited to read Wolfsbane. Is there one thing that we don't know about you that you could whisper in our ear right now? *leans forward* We won't tell a soul.

SHAY: *whispers* *winks*

Well, *sighs*, I think that concludes our interview here, Shay. Thank you for answering those burning questions.

Character Interview with Michael from Myra McEntire's Hourglass

We are so excited to interview Michael from Myra McEntire's Hourglass. And, well, you'll see why Emerson's best friend refers to him as "Delicious". A nickname he obviously deserves. Keeping in mind our no spoiler policy, we asked Michael only a few questions:

PTB: Michael, we love how you and Em have an intense attraction from the start. When you saw Em for the first time, what three words came to mind?

Michael: beautiful hot mess

PTB: And we noticed that you enjoy reading as much as we do. If you could only bring two books with you, what would they be?

Michael: Book ... definitely some Vonnegut, and can I opt for my guitar over another book? No? How about ... Treasure Island. I know how Sophie feels about swords ...

PTB: *blushes* I'm beginning to see how you got your nickname. Umm, we definitely agree that you're the hero of Hourglass, is there a fictional or a real life hero you admire?

Michael: I really connect with the sacrificial hero. Fictionally, Harry Potter. Real life, Martin Luther King, JR.
PTB: Michael, those are wonderful choices. So, if there was one thing you could change about yourself, what would it be?

Michael: I'd be a little more laid back. I can be too serious sometimes. (But Emerson always knows how to make me laugh.)

PTB: And lastly, you are such a romantic (yes, we can tell) so can you share with us your definition of a perfect date with Em.

Michael: Somewhere alone, with no electricity. Ahem.
PTB: *laughs* I'll just bet you would enjoy that...and perhaps no wrought iron fences either?

So, you guys, the release date of Hourglass is June 14th. Have you pre-ordered it, yet? Check out the synopsis and Kirkus review over on Myra's blog.

Our 5-star review and book giveaway will be posted on June 28th as part of  Mundie Moms' sponsored tour. The next stop on the tour is on June 7th with The Girls in the Stacks and it will feature an interview with the author, Myra McEntire.

My Not-So-Still Life Blog Stop: Character Interview - Vanessa & Giveaway

My Not-So-Still Life by Liz Gallagher is told through Vanessa's point a view. Vanessa likes to live her life without boundaries. To learn more you can read the synopsis below or stop by Liz's website.
Vanessa is wise beyond her years. She's never really fit in at school, where all the kids act and dress the same. She's an artist who expresses her talent in the wacky colors she dyes her hair, her makeup and clothes. She's working on her biggest art project, and counting the days until she's grown up and can really start living.

That adult world seems closer when Vanessa gets her dream job at the art supply store, Palette, where she worships the couple who runs it, Oscar and Maye. And she's drawn to a mysterious guy named James, who leads her into new, sometimes risky situations. Is she ready for this world, or not?

Is there one piece of work from Jackson Pollack that is your favorite?

I think I'm mostly drawn to Jackson Pollock because of the way he worked, breaking boundaries and doing something totally different. I really respect that. When I think of his art, I think of things like Number 1, 1950 (which is also called Lavender Mist). Just bunches of color all layered on top of each other. Think of how free he must've felt splattering color everywhere! Oh, man. That's what I want to do.

Did you enjoy the summer art program?

Yes! I had a blast. Working with kids turned out to be really fun. They were so cute and it was fun getting a little crazy with them, encouraging them to make big messes. Of course, then I had to be the one to clean up. But I guess that's what becoming responsible is all about. I'm hoping to do it again next summer.

What is the most important thing you've learned about yourself?

Wow, in the past few months I've learned a lot about myself. I think the most important is just that I'm okay where I am. I have a great family and awesome friends. I don't need to be in a hurry to move out on my own and fend for myself. It's okay to need people.

How is your art going – anything new, fun and exciting?

It's been really fun. I've kept up with spray paint as a medium, but not graffiti. Grampie and my mom are really supportive, letting me paint the garage door and I have a "studio" in the backyard under a makeshift roof we built. That way, I can do big work.

If you were stranded on an island, what are the 3 things you would want to have with you?

Do I have internet access? If yes, then definitely a computer! Also spray paint. And shampoo, I hate being dirty.

Favorite place to paint?

Right now, it's my backyard, especially when Grampie is out there gardening too.

Favorite band?

Holly started a band! They're called Orchestra and they rock. It's this mix of punk-pop with Holly playing her cello, all kids from her actual orchestra.

Favorite book?

I love to read actual novels, but my favorite book has got to be Banksy's WALL AND PIECE. It's a collection of his guerilla street art. He's the master.

I'm Not Her Blog Tour Stop: Character Interview:Tess

I'm Not Her by Janet Gurtler is a story told through Tess's point of view - she is thrown into the popularity spotlight when her older sister is diagnosed with cancer.  You can learn more about the book by visiting the authors website.
What did you learn about Kristina throughout this ordeal?

I learned that Kristina’s life was never as perfect and carefree as I thought. I also learned she’s more like me that I knew and that being beautiful and popular doesn’t equal unbreakable happiness.
If you were granted three wishes, what would you ask for?
1. For Kristina to have her leg back
2. To fall madly and deeply in love with a wonderful boy.  And have a great job. And a career. Wait that’s three right there.  Forget them all. I’d wish to be happy.
3. I feel obligated to wish for something a little more self-less. Like no more weather disasters in the world. No more earthquakes or tsumai’s or other horrible tragedies that end so many lives.

What is your favorite work of art?
Anything by Robert Bateman. He’s an amazing Canadian painter who does the most beautiful wildlife paintings!
What inspires you most - your muse?
It probably sounds silly, but these days I am most inspired by my sister. When I think about what she’s had to overcome and the obstacles she’s going to face for the rest of her life, it makes me want to do more. Work harder, dig deeper in my work.
How are things going with Superman?
Clark is awesome.  Really really awesome.   That’s all I’ll say for now.

Q & A with Jace from Cassandra Clare's #CoFA

Welcome to day 4 of our Countdown to City of Fallen Angels! (Click HERE to pre-order your BN Exclusive Edition of CoFA - it includes some exclusive extra content!) - As many of you may know, CoFA comes out TOMORROW! We are SUPER excited to delve into Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter world yet again!  We hope you enjoy our last Character Q & A and that it leaves you SUPER excited for for City of Fallen Angels!

Today we have Jace from the Mortal Instruments Series. (We previously interviewed Tessa and Jem for a BIR2010 feature, click HERE to check out those interviews - you can also view all of our CoFA countdown Q & As by clicking HERE.) Here's how Cassandra Clare describes Jace:
Fighting, hunting, and killing demons are the things Jace is good ad. Though the jagged scars and black runic Marks on his body are a badge of honor as far as he's concerned, he keeps a lot to himself. Like the fact that his parents were murdered by Valentine's servants in front of him when he was ten years old. There are a lot of things Jace doesn't talk about — until he meets Clary, a mundane girl who can see him, maybe better than he can see himself. The connection that binds them will force Jace to confront the black secrets of a past he never wanted to remember...

Do you see any similar characteristics between yourself and Valentine?
That may be the question that haunts my nightmares. I'd like to think not but you can't shake off ten years of upbringing that quickly. Some of the things he liked are things I like — piano music, old books, military strategy. Sometimes I find myself wondering what he would do in a situation. I also wonder from time to time how much he shaped my judgements of people and the world. I suppose only time will tell.

What scares you the most?
The thought of losing her. Clary, that is.

What's your favorite rune and why?
The Fearless rune — it lets you do things you can't imagine you'd otherwise do, and makes other people behave most amusingly.

If you had a chance to say one last thing to Valentine, what would you say/ask?
It's more of a hand gesture, really.

Whats your idea of a perfect date with Clary?
Some time in a room alone. Now before anyone starts pelting me with fruit for being a lust-crazed teenage stereotype, first I will have you know that I am, in fact, a lust-crazed teenage stereotype. Secondly, do you have any idea how difficult it is for us to get any time alone that isn't in public? Jocelyn won't have me in her house, and otherwise Clary has to come to the Institute for training, which is always full of people. And Clary has a curfew. And Maryse is entirely on Jocelyn's side and watches us like a hawk. There's only so much a lust-crazed teenage stereotype can take.

If you could grant a wish for Alec what would you give him?
I think he already got the thing he really wanted. But I suppose if I could give him anything else it would be complete acceptance from his family and the Clave. I think Maryse and Robert have been surprisingly supportive, but part of that has to do with losing Max — they don't want to lose two sons. They'll take Alec however they can have him. But I'd rather give him them not thinking of it as any sort of disadvantage at all, If that makes sense.

If you could get a pet, what would you get and what would you name it?
I'd get a cat, name him The Great Catsby, and put him in a cage match with Chairman Meow.

What are your favorite 3 things about yourself?
Only three? THREE?

Have you become less of a risk taker now that you're with Clary?
Yes — more to live for, and besides, she hates it, and she has a terrifying temper if you haven't noticed.

Q & A with Simon form Cassandra Clare's #CoFA

Welcome to day 3 of our Countdown to City of Fallen Angels! (Click HERE to pre-order your BN Exclusive Edition of CoFA - it includes some exclusive extra content!) - As many of you may know, CoFA comes out on Tuesday, April 5th and we could think of no better way than to help you fill the days leading up to the release than to bring you the characters of Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter world!

Today we have Simon from the Mortal Instruments Series. (We previously interviewed Tessa and Jem for a BIR2010 feature, click HERE to check out those interviews - you can also view all of our CoFA countdown Q & As by clicking HERE.) Here's how Cassandra Clare describes Simon:

Simon Lewis likes his life. He lives in a cool neighborhood in Brooklyn, plays drums in a band whose name changes every day, and hides a not-so-secret crush on his best friend. He's planning to tell her about it — some day. Some day comes all too quickly when Clary's mother disappears, sucking them both into the secret world of the Shadowhunters, plunging them into mortal danger, and, even more annoyingly, throwing them into the path of Jace, the blond Shadowhunter who seems to hold an irresistible fascination for Clary...

[It's worth remembering that City of Bones takes place in 2007, so neither his music nor his gaming is going to be up to date]

What are the top 3 songs on your ipod?
Murderer by Low; Fall Out Boy's The Take Over, The Break's Over; Is There A Ghost by Band of Horses. I'm an emo boy.

Now that vampires are all the rage with the ladies, what is the first thing a girl asks you when they find out you're a vampire?
I don't go around telling random girls I'm a vampire! And as far as the two girls whose opinions actually matter goes — I don't think either Izzy or Maia thinks my being a vampire is a big advantage. Well, maybe Izzy, since it would annoy her parents. If she ever told them about me.

What is the coolest and most frustrating things about being a vampire?
Coolest — I can run really fast and never get tired. Most annoying, I have a list. I don't like blood, but I have to drink it. I was a vegetarian - a vegetarian! Animal blood makes me sick. Imagine having to go your whole life only consuming one food, and you hate it.

What is your favorite game and gaming system? Do you find you have more time to play now that you're a vampire?
Portal. THE CAKE IS A LIE. I've got much less time to play now that I'm a vampire, though. And my speeded-up reflexes and different vision actually make it more difficult.

Whats your idea of a perfect date with a girl?
Uh, well, I'm not one for going out to dinner any more, really. I'd like to go see a show, some band I really like. Then walk around the Village, just talking.

If they found a cure to vamperism that would allow you to become human again, would you take it?
Yes, in a heartbeat, if I had one. What? Okay, fine, so I'm not so much with the hilarious one-liners like Jace.

What makes Clary a good best friend?
She's totally loyal. She'd die for me, I'd die for her. I know because on a few occasions it's almost happened. Not every best friend is going to march into a vampire-infested hotel to save you.

What is your biggest fear?
Living forever and watching all my friends die off.

Q & A with Jessamine from Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Angel #CoFA

Welcome to day 2 of our Countdown to City of Fallen Angels!

Today we're talking with Jessamine from The Infernal Devices Series.  (We previously interviewed Tessa and Jem for a BIR2010 feature, click HERE to check out those interviews.) Here's how Cassandra Clare describes Jessamine:
Jessamine's parents, like Will's were Shadowhunters who left the Clave. Their deaths in a fire orphaned her, leaving her to be brought up in the Institute by Charlotte and Henry. Jessamine hates everything about being a Shadowhunter, from the training to the danger to the existence of demons, which she seems "smelly and disgusting." Armed with a razor-edged parasol and an equally sharp tongue, Jessamine can be dangerous if she wants to be—to herself as much as to the supernatural creatures she's sometimes forced to encounter.

If you had a daughter what would worldly advice would you give her on her 18th birthday?
Don't trust men. Ever.

If you could have a day without the demands of being a Shadowhunter and could enjoy London Society, what would you do?
I would rise late in the day, at eleven or so, breakfast, dress in my finest, ride in the Park and see the lastest fashions and most handsome gentleman, and then supper and perhaps the opera or a concert. Then four, perhaps five evening parties, at each of which I would dance and flirt with my fan.

What are 3 requirements you have for anyone you'd consider as a future husband?
That he not be a Shadowhunter.
That he be rich.
That he be utterly devoted to me.

What do you never leave home without?
My silk-lined kid gloves and a bonnet in the latest fashion.

What is your favorite leisure time activity?
We hardly get any leisure time in the Institute. Charlotte is always wanting me to do this or do that or find a book for her or practice throwing knives which, ugh, I shall never do. I enjoy watercolors and am told I am a passably good artist but I doubt I shall ever be allowed the time to practice.

If you were to take a holiday, where would you go, what would you visit?
Oh, Paris, to be sure, for a shopping spree, and ideally a custom-made Charles Worth creation just for me.

What's your most prized possession?
My dollhouse, one of the few items to escape the fire that killed my parents.

What's your biggest fear?
That I shall never escape the dreary world of the Shadowhunters and shall die an old maid because I refuse to marry one of the Nephilim.
