#BloodbornBirthdayBash Day 4 - The Star of Bloodborn, Brock, Talks Birthdays!

Hope you are all enjoying our Bloodborn Birthday Bash and you're working hard on your Cover Remakes this weekend!  Day 4 brings us a Guest Blog from Brock - The star of Bloodborn, Brock (he's the cute boy on the cover!), talks about his last birthday and what he expects for his next one.  And like yesterday, leave a comment to get an entry into the Bloodborn Birthday Bash Giveaway!
Well, I was born on December 5. My last birthday was decent. Sure, Washington gets icy and gloomy around that time of year, but the weather usually doesn’t have the balls to actually snow. I was still together with Cyn back then. We broke up over a month ago; don’t want to talk about that. But I can tell you that back in December, on my seventeenth birthday, Cyn’s present to me was this tiny little cactus with a red flower. She called it cute, and told me it was really easy to take care of, but I accidentally killed the cactus before Christmas.

Anyway, back then I didn’t know I was going to be a cactus murderer, or that me and Cyn were going to break up later. On my seventeenth birthday, we were both happy, and my dad baked me a really awful birthday cake that was supposed to be chocolate-marshmallow. I ate as much as I could stomach before Grandma June stepped in and told Dad the cake was a baking disaster. Dad was laughing too hard at the look on my face to care. And then we ate the pineapple upside-down cake Grandma June baked, which tasted a lot better.

I don’t think I’m getting any pineapple upside-down cake for my next birthday. It’s only a few months away, but I’m not sure I’m going to last that long. See, I got bitten. By a werewolf, of course. There are no vampires around here in Klikamuks, Washington. Okay, so I didn’t think Klikamuks had werewolves, either, until we saw the pack of them running around in the national forest, so close to our dairy cows that Dad started sleeping in a chair by the window, like he could keep watch, like he could actually stop the werewolves.

Werewolves aren’t something you can stop without getting hurt. Me and my brother found that out the hard way. I don’t know how to stop the virus from multiplying in my blood, until I can’t help changing, can’t help becoming a beast. If I make it to my next birthday, I’ll get back to you.

#BloodbornBirthdayBash Day 3 - Karen Talks Birthdays

Welcome to day 3 of our Bloodborn Birthday Bash.  Today we'll take it easy on you since we know you're all hard at work on your cover remakes.  We have a guest blog from Karen, she talks about her birthdays and how they have been book-related. And leave a comment below (and be sure we have a way to contact you, either leave your email in the comments or be sure your email is linked to your blogger profile) - a comment earns you 1 entry into our Bloodborn Birthday Bash Giveaway.

If you knew me, you would think that every one of my birthdays was overflowing with books. If you knew me really well, you would know better than to buy me a book for my birthday. Chances are, I already have it, or I will soon. Now, when I was but a wee brat, a very long time ago, I do remember getting a specific book for my birthday. I don’t remember how old I was at the time, I’d have to ask my mom, but I remember the book: it was Matilda by Roald Dahl. If you can believe it, I had never read a Roald Dahl book before. I remember being fascinated by the shiny raised letters of the title. I had never read a book with shiny raised letters either, and somehow equated it with fancy adult bestsellers sold in airport bookstores. I was mature! At last!

Anyway, I actually read Matilda, and I loved it. Dahl has a wicked sense of humor, and isn’t afraid to gleefully make his characters suffer. As a kid, I ate it up. I then promptly read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, The BFG, The Giant Peach, and pretty much every other Dahl book in existence, even his autobiography about flying in the Royal Air Force in WWII, though I’m not sure that much of it made sense to me at the time. I was obsessed. Roald Dahl became a sort of authorial idol, all because of a birthday book.

Now, you might be wondering how many of these other Dahl books were birthday presents. To be honest, I can’t remember, because all the birthday books and Christmas books and library books and random books have blurred together. When my sisters and I were kids, our mom believed in lots of books and lots of reading. We had a huge home library filled with all sorts of nonfiction, most of it educational for homeschooling purposes, and bookcases by our beds overburdened with books. Speaking of overburdened bookcases, once, in an earthquake, the tall wicker bookshelf on the wall by my bed came crashing down and puked books all over my quilt and pillow. Luckily I wasn’t asleep, being a night owl. That’s the only time I thought maybe it could be harmful for my health to read so much.

Fast forward to today. My birthday was on September 1, and my book, Bloodborn, releases officially on September 8. We very nearly had the same birthday, but then the release date got tweaked a bit for publishing reasons. But I will still happily share my birthday week with my book, and we can eat cake together and compare birthday wishes from Facebook friends—ahem. Well, I will be eating cake, anyway. This is my excuse to buy a giant one for the launch party. But you know what would be the best birthday present? Knowing that readers love Bloodborn. And no, I’m not being saccharine, though I may have just eaten a lot of frosting recently.

#BloodbornBirthdayBash Day 1!!!

Other by Karen Kincy was one of Pixie's favorite books of 2010, so we were SUPER excited when Karen contacted us to host a release week birthday bash to celebrate book 2 in the Other series, Bloodborn!

BloodbornBrock Koeman always hated werewolves and Others like them. While trying to trap a werewolf pack, he and his brother Chris were attacked and bitten—becoming what they have always feared and despised. While Chris fights for his life in the hospital, Brock faces another kind of battle: stifling his terrible urge to transform.

When werewolves kidnap him and the girl he loves, Brock discovers what it means to be Other—wondrous new sensations and experiences, overshadowed by constant danger—and the life that awaits him if he can ever accept his fate.
So over the next 7 days, we'll have a party game or a guest blog to celebrate!  Today is also Karen's birthday and that leads us to our first party game:
Wish Karen Happy B-day on twitter or facebook #BloodbornBirthdayBash @karenkincy, @PageTurnersBlog & http://www.pageturnersblog.com to get your first entry into our Bloodborn Birthday Bash Giveaway!
