Character Interview - Aria from Through the Ever Night

When we were asked to participate in the tour, we may have begged to interview Aria from Veronica Rossi's Under the Never Sky. In the story, she's literally thrown into an entirely different and much more savage world than the one she grew up in. Everything she knows is gone and she has to deal with so many physical and mental changes that she easily became one of my all time favorite characters. Naturally my first question had to be about my fic crush and her companion during key parts of the story, Roar.

PTB:  You're returning from a long journey with Roar at the start of the book, tell us one thing about Roar that we didn't know from UtNS.
Roar is a very good impersonator. He picks up on a person's mannerisms and their voice, and he can play them perfectly. He'd make an incredible actor. You should see him impersonate Perry. It makes me laugh every time.

PTB: *pictures Roar impersonating Perry and laughs* I can only imagine that he gave you those moments of levity when you needed them most. Aria, you finally get to see Perry's home and we were all so excited for you. When you reached the Tides, what was the first thing you noticed?
It was hard to see the place at first because people were staring at me. But once I did look around, what I saw first was Perry's house. It was small and a little bit faded and worn, but very cheery. I loved it the minute I stepped inside.

PTB: I adored his house and could see it perfectly just from the description. Now, at a very key point in your journey, you use your singing voice to calm an important group of people, what were you thinking about when you started to sing?
It's hard for me to sing without thinking about my mother. She used to love to hear me sing. Now, when I do, I always think about her. I think I always will.

PTB: Oh Aria, I loved when you sang to her in the first book. I can only imagine how beautiful and soothing your singing voice sounds in person. But you and Perry have a serious matter on your hands because the Aether storms are worsening and you begin your search for the Still Blue.  What do you imagine the Still Blue will be like?
When I think about it, I just think about being with Perry and Roar. Not so much what it will look like, but who I'll be with. But I do hope that it's a pretty place.

PTB: I completely understand that. I think it's the way most of us feel when we move to a new city; we are happy to be with our family and hope the surroundings will be decent. In this story, you mention that you feel like you don't belong with the Outsiders or the Dwellers. That must be an unsettling feeling. Where do you think you belong?
That is a good question. Do you have any ideas? I guess it's the thing I'm looking for... the answer to that very question.

PTB: I think that you've adjusted yourself amazingly in the harshest of situations. So I'd call you something new, perhaps an Adapter, if I had to choose a label for you. I've been thinking about your ability and I find it fascinating that you can hear the softest, most distant sounds. As an Aud what sound is the most pleasing? Terrifying?
Water makes a beautiful sound. In waves. In rain. It's very musical, and I can't get enough of it. And terrifying? That would be the tone of fear in the voice of someone I love.

PTB: I couldn't agree with you more; one of my favorite places to sit is by a lake or an ocean.  I may have just shuddered on the tone of fear comment because yes, that is definitely (no doubt about it) the most terrifying sound.  Now, you and Perry spend a good deal of time being separated or with other people in Through the Ever Night. As I read, I kept thinking what would be the first thing you'll tell Perry when you two are finally alone?
I'm not sure the first thing I'd want to do is talk, but I'm going to go with this question anyway..... I'd tell him what he means to me, which is everything.

PTB: Okay, Aria you made me laugh with that answer! Trust me, we understand and in the same circumstance we wouldn't be talking either.

Synopsis:  It's been months since Aria last saw Perry. Months since Perry was named Blood Lord of the Tides, and Aria was charged with an impossible mission. Now, finally, they are about to be reunited. But their reunion is far from perfect. The Tides don't take kindly to Aria, a former Dweller. And with the worsening Aether storms threatening the tribe's precarious existence, Aria begins to fear that leaving Perry behind might be the only way to save them both.

Threatened by false friends, hidden enemies, and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?

  1. Realms and the Wilds are extremes that make things hard to choose! The lazy part of me would love the Realms, where I go anywhere and do anything I wish just with a Smarteye but... I'll love to explore the Wlds as well. Too much technology can be unhealthy :P

Thank you for hosting this giveaway!

  2. I'd probably live in the wilds, where things are more real and they can actually feel and experience hardship out there which in turn gives more depth and meaning to their happiness..

  4. If I could, I'd like to live in the wild! I, know that would be strange at first for me, but it will give new meaning to my life and I'll feel the presence of nature for the first time, and have adventures that I can only dream about!

  7. Thanks for the giveaway! As for the question... the Realms would be pretty cool. I mean, you could do basically anything, unbound by the physics of the real world. But at the same time I'd probably miss experiencing things in real life. I'm sure sunlight wouldn't feel the same in the Realms anyway. :P
