Synopsis:
Recently banished, unfairly, by the school’s popular crowd, former “it girl,” Miranda Prospero, finds herself in a brave new world: holding dominion amongst a rag-tag crew of geeks and misfits where she works at the Hot-Dog Kabob in the food court of her local mall. When the worst winter storm of the season causes mall workers and last-minute shoppers to be snowed-in for the night, Miranda seizes the opportunity to get revenge against the catty clique behind her social exile. With help from her delightfully dweeby coworker, Ariel, and a sullen loner named Caleb who works at the mall’s nearby gaming and magic shop, Miranda uses charm and trickery to set things to right during this spirited take on Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
When Miranda falls, she falls hard as the once popular girl with everything looking bright for her is ripped from her in an instant.
Miranda is forced to get a job to pay off a debt at the hot dog stand at the mall. She dreads it, but does enjoy working with her over energetic coworker, Ariel. The “In” group that she was once a part of comes in to hackle her, but even though she is hurt, she does not let them get the best of her.
A wicked snowstorm hits the area, and everyone is stuck at the mall for the night. There is a thief on the loose, a couple kids missing, and Miranda plots revenge on her once best friends.
WOW! Can you imagine being trapped in the mall overnight? For some it might be a nightmare, but man, after reading this story I totally got the fun and chaos the teenagers trapped experienced. This book was such an amazing read. It truly captures so many amazing qualities. The excitement of having the run of the mall…well, just imagine what kind of fun and strange things the teenagers can come up with! The emotional…where Miranda realizes who her true friends are. The mystery…where is the thief and the missing boys? The scheming…What can Miranda do to seek her revenge? And to top it off, everyone goes to Miranda for advice and help. The teenage bickering back and forth was so right on and funny. I found myself laughing aloud quite often.
Tempestuous is a refreshing read, so true to life, and exquisitely written. The title is fitting to the plot. To be trapped in a mall overnight is filled with temptations and possibilities. However, a girl finding her true self and overcoming her old temptations prevails.
