Until I Die Blog Tour Stop: Character Interview with Kate

Kate is stopping by the blog today to answer a few yearning questions for us. 

• What do you enjoy most about Paris?

Walking through Paris is like being on a treasure hunt. You’ll be wandering through a charming little neighborhood, passing cafés and shops, and then all of a sudden be standing in the middle of the ruins of a Roman arena. Or turn a corner off of a shopping street and be facing a medieval church tower standing there by itself—the church has long since crumbled.

And then there’s the mix of cultures everywhere: a 6’ stick-figure fashion model handing a coin to a tiny beggar woman; French businessmen sitting next to punk-rock Japanese tourists; haute-couture grannies sashaying in their 4-inch heels past a group of laughing teenagers in jeans and Converse.
When I walk through Paris I am always in a state of amazement and wonder.

• What is the one thing that Vincent does that you can't resist?

There’s this look that he gives me – it’s this kind of sideways glance followed by a proud-looking smile. It’s like he’s reminding himself of who he’s with and then looking really pleased about it. When he does it, I can’t help throwing my arms around his neck and smothering his face with kisses.

• Favorite fictional bad boy or crush (since not all of us girls like the bad boys)?

Since everyone always says “Mr. Darcy,” I’ll choose a character he inspired: Mark Darcy from Bridget Jones’s Diary. I totally fell for him in both book and movie.

• What is the one thing you wish you could do better?

Swordfight. I hate it that EVERY SINGLE PERSON I hang out with (except my sister) fights so much better than I do. Of course, they’ve all had decades of experience, and I’ve just been training with Gaspard for a few weeks. But my goal is to be able to beat Vincent at a swordfight. Just once.

• Most embarrassing moment?

I’ve had so many embarrassing moments that it takes a lot to embarrass me now. Okay – here’s one. I’m pretty messy. My clothes are kind of all over the place. Well the other day, I left Mamie and Papy’s apartment carrying my backpack-style laptop bag, which has a Velcro closing on the bottom of it. I walked 5 Paris blocks wondering why people were cracking up as they walked past me until finally I looked behind me and noticed I had a pair of panties hanging from the bottom of my backpack. 5 blocks. Pink. Yep, very embarrassing.

• Why was choosing love so important - from the sound of it, you are missing out on a lot by choosing Vincent?

For me, it was a choice between living a grief-free life without the love that Vincent brought me OR loving Vincent and having to deal with his constant deaths. I chose to live without love. After my own parents’ deaths, I didn’t think I could cope with another person I loved dying again and again – even if he is resurrected each time. But Vincent promised me that he will control the urge revenants have to die and refrain from death during my lifetime. I have promised to give “us” another try. We’ll see what happens.
