Autism Awareness Hop Giveaway


April is Autism Awareness Month. To help spread the word about Autism we are hosting a giveaway hop.


We will be giving away a pre-ordered copy of From What I Remember... by Stacy Kramer & Valerie Thomas. I choose this book, because there is a minor character on the spectrum - and although his part is small, his character is very pivotal to the development and growth of other characters.


 This hop is being hosted by:
The CDC recently announced a 23% jump in the diagnosis rate of Autism from just a years ago; it is now 1 in 88 or 1 in 54 in boys.

Typically characterized by verbal delays, repetitive behaviors, and social struggles, autism is five times more common among boys than girls -- with 1 in 54 boys identified, according to the new study. It is also found more commonly in white children than black and Hispanic children. Previous reports have shown that autism is one of the few developmental disabilities in which children from higher socio-economic backgrounds are more likely to be identified.

Thanks for the chance to read this great sounding book! :) My special education professor said the only reason they're changing the definition of autism is to reduce the number of students who are classified on the ASD spectrum. The other students who are high-functioning or that don't fit in the new definition won't receive services anymore.
