For those of you who haven't read The Gathering Storm, let me explain a little. Katerina lives in 1880s Russia and is part of the Russian royal family; so yeah, the clothes she gets to wear are kind of to die for. The art designer at Random House was able to bring a little of that magical fashion history to The Unfailing Light cover to help us invision Katerina's world that much more.
And here's the cover!!!!!!!! (click to view larger, it's BEAUTIFUL! You so want to click!)
and pre-order from Barnes & Noble or Amazon!
A little about the dress from Robin Bridges:
The gown Katerina is wearing on the cover of THE UNFAILING LIGHT is actually a dress by Moscow designer Nadezhda Lamanova, which belonged to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna in the late 1890’s. The gown belongs to a collection at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg and is made of pale pink satin and chiffon and embroidered with silver flowers and vines.
Random House art designer Trish Parcell was able to secure the rights to use the gown for Katerina. It must have been difficult to select the dress from so many beautiful choices at the Hermitage!
