Author: Jessica Spotswood
Release: February 2012 by Putnam Juvenile
Synopsis:
Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they're witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.
Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word . . . especially after she finds her mother's diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family's destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.
If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren't safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.
Magically addictive! Born Wicked is a historical romance that bewitched me within the first few pages and held me captive until the very end.
Time is running out for Cate Cahill and her sisters - being the oldest of the Cahill witches she promised her dying mother to protect her sisters from the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood makes and enforces the rules, and they have outlawed witchery. They can also choose when and who you marry; if Cate doesn’t choose her fate soon they will pick for her. Cate knows what she wants, but it’s not what she should do to save her family. When Cate finds her mother’s long lost diary she learns the secrets her moms been keeping and the truth about her future. She just doesn’t know if she can fulfill it.
Wonderful debut, Jessica Spotswood sure knows how to drawn you into her story and make you fall for her characters. May favorite debut so far in 2012 and I can’t wait to read the next chapter in the Cahill Chronicles.
