How it has improved my life:
Well, what most people don't know about me is I am a feminist. At first I didn't even realize it myself. But gradually, as time went on, I begin to notice all of these things that a lot of the girls around me, at my high school or just other places in general, did and how they acted. I hated how they did all of these things for guys and, maybe its because I don't really have much of a great example of a father figure or whatever and I've seen how unfairly and horrible women have been treated. I refuse to lower my standards for ANY guy.
There's more I want to say but this is probably longer than what is needed...

I felt empowered when i ran for president of the student committee in my college *and WON!* I'm the first female president of the committee even though the faculty is (and has always been) mostly comprised of women! It looks like they never knew (or never wanted) to be president.

My best friend was heading down the road of no return. Her boyfriend was a total jerk, she suffered from depression, and she was hanging with the wrong crowd. What could I do? I sat by and watched her spiral downwards.
Then came the jokes about cutting. I began to seriously worry about her. She told me that she hated herself, and she called herself terrible names. That's when I realized that I had to do something.
There are girls like my friend all around the world. There are also best friends who are sitting there and watching it happen. Well, I'm not going to be one of those friends. I'm going to do everything I can to save her. You can be the person to turn your friend's life around. You just have to be willing to jump in and try.

I don't know if I really have a statment persay. But I think for myself something I not only tell myself now and the girls I teach at church, is to always stand up for what you believe to be right! I look back on my teenage years and I wish so many times I would have stood up to that bully in school. Another thing, which I so wish someone would have told me at 16, is its okay to not know who you are yet. Here I am 27 years old and married and I'm still learning who I am. I didn't even come into myself till I was about 25. I was always the shy girl who sat in the lunch room by herself with a book. I used to think I was the biggest loser but now I look back and say its who I was then. And who I was then has made me who I am today. Strong willed, proud, faithfull, willing to stand up for what I believe to be true, and most importantly so very happy!! There are so many things I tell my nieces all the time about being a girl and growing up. Like its okay to cry when a boys dumps you and it is important to me because its important to you. Its okay to not always go with the fashion because you never know you might start a new fashion. I wish girls knew that it was okay to just ALWAYS be themselves because one day its themselves that they will have to answer to, not the fashion or the cool things of the world. Don't let the mean people get to you and if you do then take that and turn into the good!! Sorry this is so long! I could go on forever I'm sure. I hated my teen and preteen years. I even left HS because I hated it so much. So this book I'm sure is going to be something I wish I had at those ages. So I guess my offical quotable statment would have to be "Be you, be strong, be proud, be faithfull, and again BE YOU". Thanks ladies. (sorry if I bored you) ;)
